Dragonball Z: Shin Budokai For PSP - Review

Dragonball Z: Shin Budokai was released for the PSP last month in America, however it is going to come to the UK Shores later on in April.

Unlike some PSP Games such as Need For Speed Most Wanted, Ape Escape etc, it is not a direct port, its a totally different and unique game of its own, and in my opinion its one of the best PSP Games available, as the graphics are clear and it doesn’t have that “white glare” flaw like most PSP Games tend to have.

The Plot of the game itself is based upon “Dragonball Z - Movie 12: Fusion Reborn”, which was released on DVD in USA on 28th March 2006 (yep i’ve got it), so if you do not know the plot of the movie, then you might not fully understand the plot of the game. But basically the plot is this, Janemba (a monster that looks like a cross breed between Frezia and Kid Buu) has appeared in hell and has messed up the life cycle (meaning the dead can roam the earth freely), so its up to the Z Fighters (Goku, Adult Gohan, Teen Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, piccolo, pikkon Andriod 18, Krillen, Gotenks, Gogeta and Vegito) to stop the bad guys (Janemba, Freiza, Cooler, Broli, Kid Buu and Cell).

The Story Mode for Dragonball Z: Shin Budokai, follows the same-type of storyline pattern as Dragonball Z: Budokai 2 on the PS2 and Gamecube, as you choose where you want to go and who to fight next, and depending on which way you go depends on what special character you unlock (or power up i.e. Super Sayian, Super Sayian 2). Also if you are woundering if its the same as “Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkachi” or “Dragonball Z: Sagas” then the answer is NO! its back to basic’s (well Budokai 3 standards) as yet again you go from Normal to Super Sayian during a battle (instead of choosing at the start of the match). The Story mode at first may seem long, however if your used to Budokai games then it should only take around 4 hours to complete.

Other modes include 2 Player Wireless Multiplayer Battles (which are pritty fun), Arcade Mode, Survival mode, Shop (buy some cool pictures and items from the movie) and Training.
Other Features are the “auto-save feataure” - so it saves your game after EVERY Match, may seem stupid, but once you get addicted to the game you may have less on your battery than you think and loading times, the loading times are relatively decent, espically when compared to the PS2 Counter parts, however you will see a loading screen before and after every battle.

Emo’s verdict - i wasn’t intending this announcement to be a reivew, more like a notice, however i love this game so much that i decided to keep rambling on about it, anyway if you LOVE fighting games then get this game, if you love anime, get this game, if you love Dragonball, get this game, if you like none of the above…..then why are you reading this post?
